English musician, Charlie Watts passes away leaving a legacy of music for all drummers to enjoy.
Charlie Watts achieved international fame as the drummer of the Rolling Stones from 1963. He originally trained as a graphic artist before developing an interest in jazz. He would later play in clubs in London where he met his future bandmates – who went on to become the Rolling Stones.
Modern Culture
The music of the Rolling Stones has been used in many games, including Call of Duty: Black Ops III. This introduced the music of the Rolling Stones – and in turn, Charlie Watts – to a new audience – including my children.
Paint it Black
First released in 1966, this song is about grief and loss and is often associated with thr Vietnam war. Charlie’s drumming is incredible. Always playing musically, Charlie provided a sensibility to the music that I hadn’t fully appreciated as a teenager. If you are a student of drumming, please do investigate Charlie and his work.
