Practice makes perfect!

There is no doubt that when learning a musical instrument, Practice makes perfect!

So how do we practice? Try following these simple steps and be sure to stay focused. I feel that it is better to practice little and often rather than “binging” the day before a lesson or rehearsal.

  • Stay relaxed and play slowly – circa 40-70BPM when learning something new
  • Practice at a constant tempo – don’t accelerate
  • Increase your tempo incrementally
  • Use a metronome
  • Maintain posture and a good stick grip throughout

Follow these steps and above all else, enjoy yourself! Music is an expression of your emotions – it’s art! Don’t put yourself under too much pressure.
